LaszloItalia.org is the first Italian community completely dedicated to OpenLaszlo (www.openlaszlo.org):"the premier open-source platform for rich internet applications"[1]. OpenLaszlo allows you to recreate, in a web context, the characteristics of a desktop application-like client. An OpenLaszlo program is written in LZX: a language turning out from the fusion of declarative aspects, deriving from the XML, with other typical ones of the imperative Object-Oriented programming, deriving from JavaScript. The LZX code is compiled to Flash files (swf) or, with OpenLaszlo 4.0B1, to DHTML. OpenLaszlo applications can be structured in classes and, once compiled, can be executed inside of the main web browsers and on most operating systems. This community is born with the precise attempt to create a solid base for the AJAX development in Italy and to show how open source can be the root to create competitive technological solutions. Thanks to the collaboration with Research Centre On Software Technology of the University of Sannio (www.rcost.unisannio.it ), we will try to fuse the Laszlo technology with the most modern design paradigms for enterprise systems.
